Excellent beer, service and food. We ordered the ramen and the corned beef sandwich. I gotta say, I'm a huge ramen fan and have tried many different places throughout Minnesota and Chicago. The ramen is all made in house and DELICIOUS. Who knew, this place had good ramen? The corned beef sandwich was also delicious. We wanted to share our dinners and have the ramen as an appetizer. They actually split our dinners in different dishes, which rarely happens and was nice.

I was happy with this place. It was easy to get to and had plenty of parking available when I visited at lunch on a Friday. staff was friendly, professional, and attentive. The food we had was nice and fresh), I had a duck burger (5/5) and a chopped salad (3/5), we also shared the veggie sliders which are absolutely phenomenal if I could give them more than five stars I would!!!! I rated the salad as average because nothing was really great about it, minimal ingredients and not really chopped and mixed like the chop salads I like. The space was pretty loud, it was a little tricky to have a conversation, but the overall atmosphere was very positive, not uptight or obnoxious. I would definitely go back for pub food and some of their drinks. I would just stay away from their salad menu LOL

This place has a $10 amazing bloody bar so for that alone it gets a great review in my book. Multiple mixes to choose from and test before using + over 20 condiments to add to your bloody! We came for brunch and sat in the bar with some friends. The dining area was over an hour wait so I would suggest calling ahead if you have a preference or a large group. I had the hot Brown which was overall good, the meat under the egg and sauce is more like deli meat to me so that somewhat turned me off. I'd rather have a fresh turkey or pulled pork of some sort for more taste. My boyfriend had the spiced French toast with cold press whip cream and it must have been good because it was gone within seconds! Service is great at the bar and staff is friendly. Prices are very reasonable all around. We can't wait to go back and try the dinner menu some time in order to give this a full judgement!

Stopped in with my family after going ax throwing downtown. They have an extensive beer menu with a ton of taps and are willing to let you sample a few before you order. I got a heavy sour beer that almost tasted like vinegar, but I actually liked it! This is definitely a great burgers and beer spot. They have some other entrees but the beer selection is 100% the driver on their menu. Food is solid, with lamb, bison, and classic burgers, all cooked to order. Servers were kind and knowledgeable about the menu. But again, if you are looking for a great burger there are better places to go, the beer is whats great here. Sit at the bar or in the dining room, either has a classic European vibe.

Yummy yummy yummy!! I honestly am starving thinking about this place again. I'm so glad my friend decided to take me here on my last visit to Saint Paul. The location is really nice and cute, and as it was a nice day, we had decided to sit outside. It's honestly got a great and cheery environment, good for catching up with an old friend! We ordered the poutine and the lobster mac 'n' cheese to split between the two of us, and I would order both of them again! They're both so tasty, and my mouth is watering just thinking about that meal. A fair warning though: both of them are very rich and filling, so come with an empty stomach if you're thinking about getting those. (My friend and I couldn't finish these two dishes in one sitting.) Aside from the food, the servers were nice, respectful, and attentive. 5 stars for The Happy Gnome! Highly recommend it, and I'm looking forward to going back the next time I'm in Saint Paul!

Unique creations, and whimsical dive-bar feel. Another good spot off Selby in residential Saint Paul. The food is beautiful to look at and just as tasty. I ordered the ramen, yes ramen, at a bar. They are not confined by tradition and simply make what they believe tastes good. There really isn't a generic label to describe the food, and you should not compare what you order to it's traditional origins. It's in a league if it's own and the creativity is appreciated. The cocktails are equally as interesting. The free street parking is fairly easy even if you need to walk a block. It was seat yourself at the time of day I went, but it looked like they were prepared to seat people later in the evening. I will certainly return to experience more of their menu, and update my review as I do.

I came here with a co-worker that used to live in the neighborhood. He raved about The Happy Gnome and I'm here to confirm that it lives up to the hype. The beer menu alone is very impressive. There were so many selections to choose from! The Twin Cities are experiencing a craft beer boom and The Happy Gnome is in full support. I let the server pick my brew based on a few suggestions (I'm rather hop forward myself). That was only the first challenge. The lunch menu is the right size. The problem is that EVERYTHING looks yummy. I once again turned to my trusy server and gave him my short list. He said the ramen - my first choice - was the reason he works the lunch shift. I can see why! I'd eat it every day if I was in the neighborhood. It was very flavorful. The broth was complex and rice, the assortment of vegetables was colorful and visually appealing. Let the slurpage commence! I need to come back and try the Game Burger, choice #2 that took the backseat to the ramen. In fact, I need to come back a few times. My short list wasn't really very short.
